Is Your Smog Test Due Soon?
If your smog inspection is due soon, and you are not sure that your car will pass it, there are a few tricks you can try that may just prove useful.
Warm-up Your Car’s Engine
Your car’s engine burns fuel, and, to make sure the engine is running as clean as possible, you first need to warm it up. As the warmer your engine is, the fewer hydrocarbons come out of the tailpipe. And, if you want to do even better, test your car on a cool day making sure your engine is as hot as possible. Cars that take in cool air do run more efficiently, and this can show on the smog equipment.
Using a Fuel Additive
A fuel additive is poured into your car’s gas tank while you are putting in more fuel. The purpose of this additive is to help to clean any carbon deposits that may be present in your engine’s exhaust and intake valves. This allows air and fuel to flow easily through them and can reduce your emission levels and improve.
Make Sure That Your Tires Are Inflated Correctly
During your smog inspection, the technician will drive your car onto a ‘dynamometer’ as part of the test. So you should make sure to fill your tires to the correct pressure before the smog test.
Changing Your Oil Before Your Test
The positive crank ventilation or PCV system in your car is specially designed to let your engine breathe the fumes located in the oil compartments. These are burned during the combustion process. So if your engine’s oil is contaminated, it could result in higher emissions and fail the smog test.
