Auto Maintenance Tips
Maintaining your car is important to ensure major problems in the future. While it is a better idea to take your car to a repair shop and have the experts do the auto maintenance, there are some things that you can do on your own and in the comfort of your own garage. While not as effective as the maintenance that the experts do, you can still be able to provide proper care for your vehicle. Here are some maintenance tips for you so that you can avoid breakdowns while using your car:
Oil Change
This is a common auto maintenance option and can be done without the need to call a professional mechanic. The first thing that you need to do is to consult your car’s user manual and find the engine oil change schedule that is printed in the manual. Follow the schedule on when you should replace the oil. Also, while you are there, make sure to check the type of oil viscosity your car needs. Lower viscosity is made for cars that drive in colder temperatures, while higher is for vehicles that are driven in hot temperatures. After, check on where you should drain the engine oil. Allow the engine oil to drain completely by leaving a bucket underneath the drain slot and leave it there for 30 minutes. When the oil has completely drained, replace the oil valve, and put engine oil in your car while checking the levels using the dipstick.
Battery Maintenance
To perform maintenance for your car’s battery, you want to make sure that you have something to charge it. Most of the time, car batteries are maintenance-free or MF, which is indicated in the battery itself. However, this does not mean that you will just leave your car’s battery as it is. Check the battery from time to time and inspect the contact points for any dirt, grime, or damaged wires. If there are some wires that are exposed, make sure to put electrical tape on these and take it later to an auto maintenance shop for a rewire. Also, if your battery is over 2 years old, it might be a good idea to charge it at least once a month to avoid having to deal with a dead battery while you are out on the road.
